Iron battle to victory in Essex Derby
· By Lee Harding
Braintree Town responded in the most positive fashion to last Saturday's heavy defeat at Farnham Town with a deserved 2-1 victory over promotion hopefuls Dagenham & Redbridge at The Cressing Road Stadium on Tuesday evening. Iron took the lead after 27 minutes. Courtney Senior broke forward before releasing Louie Johnson who volleyed home from the left into the far corner for 1-0. Dagenham & Redbridge enjoyed a better second half and hit the Iron crossbar after 74 minutes, before levelling the score with nine minutes to play through substitute Claydon.
But Braintree retained their composure and secured the victory their play deserved. Alfie Matthews lifted the ball forward for Alex Bolovan to chase down and then lob the out-coming keeper Nathan Ashmore from the edge of the 18-yard box. In time added on a special mention to Iron keeper Ben Hughes who made. A great save to secure the three points which lifted Iron out of the bottom four up to 20th.
Next up for Braintree's another big match at home to Hampton & Richmond Borough in the Enterprise League (South) this coming Saturday 31st October, with kick-off at 3pm.
