Iron Hit for Six at Farnham
· By Admin
Braintree Town endured a miserable afternoon on Saturday as Farnham Town ran out convincing 6-0 winners, with George Alexander scoring five times in a comprehensive defeat for the Iron.
Braintree's defensive struggles continued as the hosts took control almost immediately, opening the scoring after just four minutes through Clifford.
Things quickly went from bad to worse for the Iron when Alexander doubled Farnham's advantage just two minutes later, leaving the visitors facing an uphill battle with barely six minutes played.
Alexander added his second of the afternoon on the hour mark to make it 3-0, effectively putting the contest beyond Braintree's reach.
The Farnham forward completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 79th minute before adding two further goals in the closing ten minutes to take his personal tally to five.
It was a thoroughly disappointing afternoon for Braintree, whose defensive frailties were ruthlessly exposed by a Farnham side that made the most of their opportunities.
The heavy defeat adds further pressure on the Iron as they look to arrest their worrying run of results and turn their season around.
Braintree return to Cressing Road on Tuesday 27 October for their next Enterprise League South fixture, with kick-off scheduled for 7.45pm.
